MSG91 WhatsApp API Pricing India 2026: Real Cost Decoded

MSG91 does not mark up WhatsApp messages in India — it charges Meta's own rates at cost and makes its money on a ₹500/month platform fee. As published on its India WhatsApp pricing page, a utility or authentication message costs ₹0.115 and a marketing message ₹0.8631, both exclusive of 18% GST, with the Titan plan at ₹500/month (₹500 off for the first two months).

That single design decision is the whole story of whether MSG91 is cheap or expensive for you. A fixed monthly fee is brilliant at high volume and punishing at low volume, and the crossover point is simple arithmetic you can do before you sign anything. This page works through it with only the numbers both vendors actually publish.

What MSG91 publishes for WhatsApp in India

Three figures matter, and all three come straight from the vendor's own India WhatsApp pricing page:

Line itemPublished figureBasis
Platform fee (Titan plan)₹500 / month₹500 off the first 2 months
Utility message (India)₹0.115Exclusive of 18% GST
Authentication message (India)₹0.115Exclusive of 18% GST
Marketing message (India)₹0.8631Exclusive of 18% GST

If those per-message numbers look familiar, they should: ₹0.115 and ₹0.8631 are Meta's own published India rates under the per-message model. MSG91 is passing them through unchanged. There is no per-message margin hiding in the invoice, which is genuinely unusual and worth crediting.

The company also publishes a dialplan covering 200+ destination countries, where the spread is enormous — Germany utility at ₹4.0322 and United States utility at ₹0.2491 against India's ₹0.115. If you send outside India at all, read that table before you model anything. Two international utility messages can cost more than seventy domestic ones.

The numbers MSG91 does not publish

Being precise about absence matters as much as quoting the rates. As of this page's research date, the India WhatsApp pricing page does not state:

  • a setup or onboarding fee,
  • any free-tier or free-conversation allowance,
  • a per-agent or per-seat charge for shared-inbox users,
  • an effective or last-revised date on the rate table.

Treat each of those as unknown rather than zero. "Not listed" and "not charged" are different claims, and only the vendor can convert one into the other. Ask in writing before you commit — particularly about seats, because a team-inbox charge is the line item that most often turns a cheap platform fee into an expensive one. We cover why that happens in per-agent seat pricing for the WhatsApp API.

Fixed monthly fee vs flat per-message: where they cross

Compare MSG91's model against a flat per-message model and the maths resolves in one line. RichAutomate's Client Pay option is Meta's direct rates plus a flat ₹0.10 per message, with ₹0 setup and no monthly minimum. MSG91 is Meta's direct rates plus ₹500 per month.

Both stack on the same Meta cost, so the Meta portion cancels out and only the platform charge decides it:

₹500 ÷ ₹0.10 = 5,000 messages per month.

Below roughly 5,000 messages a month, a fixed ₹500 is the more expensive way to buy the same Meta rates. Above it, a fixed fee is straightforwardly better and the gap widens fast — at 100,000 messages the fixed fee is twenty times cheaper on the platform line. Any vendor comparison that does not name your monthly volume is not a comparison, it is a slogan.

One caution on comparing the two totals: MSG91's ₹500 is stated exclusive of 18% GST, so the cash figure is ₹590. Plan prices quoted GST-inclusive elsewhere are not directly comparable until you put both on the same basis. Always normalise before subtracting.

Marketing messages dominate everything else

At ₹0.8631 versus ₹0.115, a marketing message costs about 7.5 times a utility message. That ratio, not the platform fee, is where most WhatsApp budgets are actually decided.

A worked example using only published rates: 10,000 utility messages is ₹1,150, while 10,000 marketing messages is ₹8,631 — a ₹7,481 difference on identical volume, dwarfing any ₹500 platform fee. Category discipline beats vendor shopping. Moving a re-engagement blast from marketing to a genuine utility template, where the use case honestly qualifies, saves more than switching providers ever will.

This is identical across every BSP in India because it is Meta's pricing, not the vendor's. The same arithmetic drives our breakdowns of Twilio WhatsApp pricing in India and AiSensy pricing. If one vendor claims a cheaper marketing rate than another on the same Indian number, ask precisely what is being discounted — it is the platform layer, never Meta's cut.

What to check before you sign

  1. Your real monthly volume, split by category. Marketing versus utility versus authentication, not one blended total. The split drives the bill.
  2. GST basis on every figure. Exclusive or inclusive, stated per line. MSG91's rates are published exclusive.
  3. Seats. Get the per-agent position in writing, since it is unpublished.
  4. Setup fee. Also unpublished — confirm it is genuinely ₹0.
  5. International destinations. If you send abroad, price your actual country mix off the dialplan, not off the India row.
  6. GST registration. Independent of vendor: going live on the WhatsApp Business API in India requires a GST-registered business. A trial can start without it, but production cannot.

Who MSG91 suits

It suits a business already sending meaningful volume — comfortably past that 5,000-a-month crossover — that wants Meta rates at cost and can absorb a fixed fee. The pass-through approach is honest and the SMS-plus-WhatsApp combination is a real advantage if you run both channels from one vendor, given the published India-to-India SMS range of ₹0.16 to ₹0.25 per message.

It suits you less if you are starting out, testing, or sending a few hundred messages a month. At that stage a fixed ₹500 is pure overhead on top of message costs you would pay anyway, and a ₹0-minimum per-message model costs less for the same delivery. For alternatives in both directions, see our MSG91 alternatives for India and the head-to-head MSG91 vs Gupshup pricing breakdown. For the underlying Meta rate card that every vendor builds on, start with WhatsApp Business API pricing in India.

Whichever way you go, run the division yourself. Platform fee divided by per-message fee gives your crossover volume, and that one number settles the decision faster than any feature grid.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How much does MSG91 charge for the WhatsApp API in India?
MSG91 publishes a Titan plan at ₹500 per month with ₹500 off the first two months, plus per-message rates of ₹0.115 for utility and authentication messages and ₹0.8631 for marketing messages. All figures are stated exclusive of 18% GST.
Does MSG91 add a markup on WhatsApp message costs?
On its published India rates, no. ₹0.115 and ₹0.8631 are Meta's own India per-message rates, so MSG91 is passing message costs through at cost and charging for the platform separately via the monthly fee.
Is a ₹500 monthly fee cheaper than paying per message?
It depends entirely on volume. Against a flat ₹0.10 per message with no monthly minimum, the crossover is ₹500 ÷ ₹0.10 = 5,000 messages a month. Below that the per-message model is cheaper; above it the fixed fee is, and the gap widens quickly.
Does MSG91 charge a setup fee or per-agent seat cost for WhatsApp?
Neither is stated on its India WhatsApp pricing page, and no free tier is listed either. Treat all three as unknown rather than zero, and ask for the seat position in writing, since a per-agent charge is what most often turns a low platform fee into a high bill.
Do I need GST registration to use MSG91 or any WhatsApp API provider in India?
Going live on the WhatsApp Business API in India requires a GST-registered business, regardless of which provider you choose. A trial can usually start without it, but production access cannot.
